Special Strong, an Adaptive Fitness Provider for People with Disabilities, Opens First Location in South Tulsa

Owners Suzanne and Mike Beckner invite the community to join them on July 23 at Courts & Commons to celebrate the Grand Opening

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tulsa, OK – June 2026 – Special Strong of South Tulsa, a specialty fitness provider serving individuals with mental, physical, and cognitive challenges, will celebrate its Grand Opening on Thursday, July 23, from 4–7 p.m. The event will be held at Courts & Commons, 7921 E 119th Dr., Bixby, Oklahoma 74008. The new Special Strong location is owned and operated by Suzanne and Mike Beckner, marking Special Strong’s first franchise in the region.

After spending more than a year searching for a consistent fitness program for their son Anthony, they saw firsthand how few options exist for individuals who live with daily mental, physical & cognitive challenges. Suzanne is a registered nurse with over a decade of experience in geriatric rehabilitation. Mike is a former college athlete and coach. Both have spent more than 20 years as Special Olympics coaches and volunteers, and as advocates for their son and the broader special needs community.

“You don’t know what can be accomplished until you try,” said Suzanne and Mike Beckner. “Anthony has defied the odds and reached milestones we were told weren’t possible. Early intervention mattered, but so does what comes after. This community deserves ongoing opportunities in adulthood, not just early on, and that’s what we’re here to build.”

The Grand Opening event will be held at Courts & Commons, with covered outdoor space and air-conditioned indoor space available. Guests can park in the lot and enter through the front door or the patio on the south side of the building.

Special Strong was founded in 2016 by Daniel Stein, who began specializing in health and fitness for people with special needs after being diagnosed with a learning disability, mood disorder, and autoimmune disease. The company provides adaptive and inclusive fitness programs to individuals with mental, physical, and cognitive challenges, including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, rare genetic conditions, and more.

“Suzanne and Mike have spent their lives showing up for this community, as parents, as coaches, as advocates,” said Daniel Stein, CEO & Founder of Special Strong. “That’s exactly the kind of heart this franchise was built around. We’re proud to bring Special Strong to South Tulsa with them leading the way.”
