For Sravanthi Patil, launching a Special Strong franchise wasn’t just a business decision—it was a personal calling rooted in her experience as the mother of a 14-year-old autistic son. With a background in education and a heart for neurodivergent children, she saw an opportunity to serve families like hers in Lewisville, TX.
Tell me a bit about yourself – what does your background look like?
I work with neurodivergent kids professionally, and at home, I’ve spent the last 14 years raising my autistic son. That journey has shaped so much of who I am—both personally and professionally. From an early age, we’ve dealt with seizures, hospital stays, therapy sessions—you name it. It’s been a road filled with challenges, but it’s also given me so much strength and purpose. That’s what led me to want to help other families like mine.
How did you end up here? Why did you pick Special Strong?
During COVID, my son became extremely sedentary—just sitting on the couch, watching TV, gaining weight. We knew we needed something to help him get active again, and that’s when we found Special Strong through social media. We signed him up for sessions with a nearby franchise, and after seeing the impact firsthand, I knew this was something I wanted to be part of. I didn’t want other parents to feel as lost or alone as I did early on. This franchise gave me a way to help others while also giving my son the support he needs.
Were there any concerns that you had going into this process?
Not really concerns—more nerves than anything. Anytime you take a leap like this, there’s that feeling of “Can I really do this?” But the heart behind Special Strong gave me the reassurance I needed. I felt like I was stepping into something meaningful.
From start to finish, what was the process like of becoming a franchisee?
It was exciting—and a little nerve-racking. But overall, it felt right. There was a lot to take in, but the process was smooth, and the support was there every step of the way.
During the process, what did you learn from talking with other franchisees?
Honestly, we haven’t connected deeply with other franchisees yet. But just being part of this network and seeing the impact others are having is inspiring.
What would you tell someone else who is considering becoming a franchisee?
Make sure you understand the financial investment, be open to following the system, and don’t be afraid to lean on the franchise support team. That’s what they’re there for, and they’ve been a great resource already.
What were some of the most attractive components of the business model?
The comprehensive training and support stood out to me immediately. I knew I wouldn’t be alone in figuring this out, and that gave me the confidence to move forward.
What made you overcome your fears and say YES to Special Strong?
It was really the mission and purpose. As a parent of a child with special needs, this hits close to home. And knowing there’s a proven system in place gave me peace of mind. On top of that, I saw how this could help me grow personally while also making a real difference—and that sealed the deal.
What did you think about the start-up costs and fees with Special Strong?
They felt reasonable. Compared to many other franchise opportunities, this one was within reach. We were committed to making it happen either way, but seeing the numbers made it feel doable.
