It all started with a scroll.
While browsing social media one day, I came across a video that immediately stopped me in my tracks. It was a short clip—but powerful. A young man named Brandon was walking for the first time in a long time. The video credited his progress to something called Special Strong.
I didn’t know what Special Strong was, but I knew one thing for certain:
This is what I want for my son, Dakoda.
We live in Surprise, Arizona, and at the time, Special Strong was based in Texas. Still, I decided to send a message: “If you ever come to Arizona, let me know.”
Honestly, I didn’t expect a response. I didn’t think anything would come of it.
A couple of years went by. Then one day, I saw another post from Special Strong—this time announcing the launch of a new location in Arizona. I froze.
The first Arizona franchisees? Fran and Jade Poloni.
I couldn’t believe it.
Fran used to work at one of the DTA (Day Treatment for Adults) centers Dakoda attended. He already knew Dakoda. He already cared about him. They had a connection. In that moment, it felt like everything had come full circle.
Since then, we’ve watched Special Strong West Valley grow into something powerful. Fran has built a team of passionate, dedicated coaches—the kind of people you want in your child’s corner.
And for Dakoda, the changes have been remarkable.
He has Cerebral Palsy and turns 26 this June. But week after week, we show up. And every session brings progress. His core strength has improved—he can now sit up straighter in his wheelchair, and for longer periods of time. His grip, arms, and legs are all getting stronger.
He’s now able to pull over 100 pounds on a sled, hand over hand. Currently, we’re working on achieving full extension in both arms. It’s tough—but Dakoda doesn’t quit.
His goal is to walk someday. And we believe in that goal.
Special Strong didn’t just change Dakoda’s life—it gave him a chance to fight for something bigger.
And that’s why this story matters.
